Muratie Estate Shiraz 2009

Tasting notes:
The wine is an intense red with a violet edge. The nose displays a combination of floral and berry notes supported by a sweet spiciness. The palate shows huge amounts of ripe tannins with green peppercorns and venison which structure the wine and compliment the fruit. This adds longevity to the wine with a vanilla, crème brûlée aftertaste. A wonderful wine now and will improve for the next 8-10 years.
Vinification:
The vineyards yield approximately 7 tons per Hectare. The grapes are handpicked at optimum ripeness, then gently crushed and destalked. The wine is made in traditional open fermenters which enable plunging and pump-overs to be done with ease. The wine is matured in 90% French oak (30% new) and 10% American oak barrels.
